A Box of Food, A Moment of Relief

This spring, we launched a small emergency food program with the support from Verdant Health Commission. We knew that many families in our community were struggling to put food on the table. What followed was both beautiful and heartbreaking.

Within weeks, 174 families reached out. Some were newly arrived, others living in their cars, and many were working long hours yet still couldn’t afford groceries. The need was urgent—and real.

With those limited funds, our 4-person team shopped at Costco, packed, and delivered 199 food boxes—each filled with fresh produce and chicken—to families across Snohomish County, from Everett and Lynnwood to Edmonds and even Federal Way. Each box, costing an average of $30, was more than just a bundle of food—it was a reminder that someone cared.

We organized local pick-up points, made the process easy and dignified, and did it all in just 12 weeks.

It wasn’t just a delivery. It was a message: You’re not alone. We see you.

🚧 Why this matters

When we asked folks if they were currently going to a food bank, most said no. The reasons?

“I don’t have a car.”, “They’re closed by the time I get off work.”, “I don’t know where they are.”, “I just moved here and have no idea how this works.”

Food banks are essential—but for many families, they’re simply out of reach. That’s why we created a flexible local pick-up system and partnered with Edmonds Food Bank to help bridge the gap.

🌱 What’s next?

We know the need hasn’t disappeared. That’s why we’re working on:

  • Setting up a 24/7 outdoor pantry accessible to anyone, anytime

  • Continuing pick-up options for those with limited mobility or time

  • Strengthening our partnerships with local food providers for culturally relevant meals

💌 If you’ve ever wondered if a small act matters—this is your reminder that it does.

Thank you to everyone who shared their story, received a box, or helped us deliver one. Let’s keep showing up for each other.
